For the third time now, Thomas Stabenow and Holger Nesweda are inviting the audience to get to know a young jazz vocalist at the Enjoy Jazz Festival in the intimate atmosphere of Schatzkistl Mannheim. This time, Erik Leuthäuser is guest. Born in 1996 in Freital near Dresden, he is currently studying jazz vocals with Judy Niemack and Peter Fessler in Berlin. From 2014 to 2016, he sang for the National Jazz Orchestra and has also received awards, including the audience prize at the renowned “Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition” where he came second. This is not surprising because he not only has incredible talent but is also bestowed with wit and charm, as his debut album “In the Land of Oo-Bla-Dee” (2015) also shows. With his own German lyrics, he has a fascinating way of mastering high-speed melodies from bepop compositions like “Ornithology” or “Confirmation”, spanning a broad range from Charlie Parker to Dizzy Gillespie. And he also does swing, and ballads too. In the first part of the evening, the young vocalist will perform solo with electronics and the second part in a quartet with the hosts. A real treasure can be found here!
