This is a small anniversary: for the fifth time, Schloss-Schule Ilvesheim invites Enjoy Jazz to a concert in the dark, where both the musicians and the audience will be in darkness. The guests will be led to their places by students from the Staatlichen Schule für Blinde und Sehbehinderte, the State School for blind and visually impaired people. There will be no distractions, no visual signals before and during the concert: this is a pure listening experience. This time, guitarist Klaus Gasteiger will be performing together with three young, extremely bustling musicians who are partially still studying: Nico Hering, Eduardo Sabella and Julian Camargo. The quartet calls itself “ICQ4” and the name references one of the first messenger services for internet chats. The therein encoded “I seek you” does not only refer to the experience in darkness at the concert but is also the ensemble’s motto as their members are fiercely determined to venture into all possible musical genres to find inspiring motives, ideas and sounds. Accordingly, “Instant Composing Quartet” would be the second code solution: there are pieces of structure but they only serve as a joint springboard for extensive improvisations. They have rules, but no boundaries—that is how the four instrumentalists see their approach. So even if you are not going to actually see the Klaus Gasteiger quartet, you will be listening and marvelling all the more!
