And another old friend! In 2001, J. Peter Schwalm from Frankfurt drew much attention when he recorded the album “Drawn From Life” together with Brian Eno. And then came a joint soundtrack for “Fear X” by Nicholas Winding Refn (2003). Before this, the conservatory-trained drummer worked as Slop Shop for a decade together with, for example, krautrock legend Holger Czukay (Can). In the noughties, Schwalm was a regular guest at the Punkt Festival in Kristiansand and gained a reputation as a creative live remixer. He was also guest at Enjoy Jazz in 2009, and remixed the legendary Punkt guest performance with guitarist Eivind Aarset and the British band Sweet Billy Pilgrim. Meanwhile, Schwalm regularly works together with Aarset and bassist Tim Harries, curates programmes for festivals and produces music for theatre, film, television and audio. The dark ambient drift “The Beauty of Disaster”, musically inspired by Miles Davis and György Ligeti, amongst others, and extended to include visuals by Sophie Clements, is Schwalm’s very personal artistic engagement with the powerful images of the catastrophic “Deepwater Horizon” oil spill region in the Gulf of Mexico 2010.
