Today, tomorrow is yesterday! Hardly any other band can talk about this more and especially more entertainingly than the Heidelberg collective De-Phazz around electronic music producer Pit Baumgartner. The journey started 20 years ago, perhaps inspired by bands like Pizzicato Five, The High Llamas and Combustible Edison. Destination phuture jazz! Around the noughties, they started riding on an international wave running on lounge music, easy listening and “Space Age Bachelor Pad Music” (Stereolab). De-Phazz’s secret of success: a consistently flexible mix of hand-made and programmed elements, an outrageous amount of pop knowledge and a good helping of irony that substantiates in classics like “Death By Chocolate” and “Daily Lama”. Together, they saw different fashions come (krautrock, bossa nova, disco) and go (krautrock, bossa nova, exotica!). They found new fans on the east side of the Oder river and sometimes used a pinch more or a pinch less of soul and jazz, as required. Their current album is titled “Prankster Bride” and its birthday party will be celebrated on the stage with plenty of instruments. As Procul Harum formulated: “All hands on deck!”
