Even though we run the danger of repeating ourselves: cellist Anja Lechner and pianist Francois Couturier have been regular guests of Enjoy Jazz for years, also thanks to their numerous appealing and aesthetic projects in the intermediate realm of classical, jazz and improvisation. Lechner has played at the side of Dino Saluzzi and Vassilis Tsabropoulos, Couturier as part of the Anouar Brahem Quartet. They also played their programmes “Il Pergolese” and “Moderato Cantabile” in duet. And then there is their joint Tarkovsky Quartet which, in the best sense of the word somnambulistically tries to evoke, explore and sense musical resonances and associations with Andrej Tarkowskij’s film language. What in 2006 perhaps started as a deep bow and homage to the important film maker, touches the listener with its poetry and melancholy that has not forgotten that Tarkowskij’s once polarising films have long been forgotten in the larger public’s collective memory.
