Yazz Ahmed, born in 1983 in Bahrain, started playing trumpet at the age of nine, after she moved to England. On her debut album “Finding My Way Home” (2011), inspired by Kenny Wheeler and Rabih Abou-Khalil, she tracks her Arabic roots somewhat clumsily. However, the next, much celebrated album “La Saboteuse” (2017) had much more subtle Arabic scales and an outstanding finely balanced instrumentation with vibraphone, bass clarinet and e-guitar. She takes a bow to »Cosmic Jazz« from the early 70s. Critics placed “La Saboteuse” somewhere between Miles Davis’ “In A Silent Way” and Jon Hassell’s polyrhythm approach in “Fourth World”. It also include a cover version of Radiohead’s “Bloom”. Yazz Ahmed has already worked together with Radiohead and the art rock band These New Puritans, as well as with ABC and Joan As Police Woman.
