It is talked about occasionally, but it is actually nicer to experience the concert. Music polarises! This is what happened during the New German Jazz Award finale at the Alte Feuerwache Mannheim in 2015. On stage that evening: the Pichler twins on bass, drums and banjo and, considering they were playing for a jazz soloist award, they had a bemusing song-oriented programme with soft duet singing. The flustered jazz police asked “Is this still jazz?” Or was it a fantastic confusion? Simon & Garfunkel with improvisations? Outrageous yet full of magic. Days later, on repeated listening to their highly recommendable album “The Waltz of our Hundred Kids”, the penny dropped: their individual, fragile and very open music stirred memories of the wonderful British musician Robert Wyatt! So here is a good opportunity to explore this solitary music, this time with a few additional instruments. And to also experience darkness »enhances« it. The special thing is: guests will be brought to their seats in complete darkness. They will neither be able to see their seats and neighbours nor the space around them. This opens up to a completely new and exciting listening experience.
